2014 Largest Tomato Contest



The winner of the 20th annual "Great Tomato Contest" is Brent Minter of Douglasville. Brent entered two 'Big Zac' tomatoes which both weighed 32.4 ounces each.
This annual event is sponsored by the Douglas County Master Gardeners, Douglas County Cooperative Extension, and Turner's Feed and Seed.
Brent received a plaque and a certificate from the Douglas County Master Gardeners and the UGA Cooperative Extension Service. The awards were presented this week at Turners Feed and Seed. You may visit the Master Gardeners website at www.dcdirt.org.

2013 Largest Tomato Contest



The Douglas County Master Gardeners Association is pleased to announced Roger Miller, who resides on Hunter Road in Douglasville, as the winner of the 19th annual 'Great Tomato Contest'. The tomato was a Big Zac and weighed 35.2 ounces.
Presenting a $100.00 cash award was Richard Turner of Turner's Feed and Seed. A plaque and a certificate of achievement were presented from the Douglas County Master Gardeners and the Douglas County Cooperative Extension Agency.

2012 Largest Tomato Contest


The Douglas County Master Gardeners Association is pleased to announced Jan Gramling as the winner of the 18th annual 'Great Tomato Contest'. The tomato was a Brandywine and weighed 34.6 ounces.
Presenting a $100.00 cash award was Richard Turner of Turner's Feed and Seed. A plaque and a certificate of achievement were presented from the Douglas County Master Gardeners and the Douglas County Cooperative Extension Agency.

2011 Largest Tomato Contest

 
The Douglas County Master Gardeners Association announced Tyree Jiles as the winner of the 17th annual 'Great Tomato Contest'. The tomato was a Parks Whopper and weighed 37 ounces. Mr. Jiles also won last year by submitting a Brandywine tomato which weighed 35.2 ounces.
Presenting a $100.00 cash award was Richard Turner of Turner's Feed and Seed. A plaque and a certificate of achievement were presented from the Douglas County Master Gardeners and the Douglas County Cooperative Extension Agency.

2010 Largest Tomato Contest

The Douglas County Master Gardeners Association recently announced the winner of this year’s 16th annual ‘Great Tomato’ contest is Tyree Jiles Jr.
The tomato was a Brandywine and weighed 35.2 ounces. This is Mr. Jiles first time to win the contest although he is an avid gardener and past winner of ‘The Best Small Vegetable Garden’ contest.
This annual event is sponsored by the DCMGA with James Kirkwood as chairman of the contest. Donating certificates of achievement are the Douglas County Cooperative Extension, and the First Commerce Community Bank. Donating the prize money is Turners Feed and Seed. Awards were presented Friday, September 9th.
