Vegetable Garden of the Year Contest

Home vegetable garden contest winners for 2010 announced!
The Douglas County Master Gardeners gave out awards Friday, July 30, to the four winners of its 24th annual Home Vegetable Gardening contest. Awards were presented at 6:00 p.m., at the home of Cliff Cash, 'best large garden' winner. According to James Kirkwood, chairman of the 'best garden' committee, the judging criteria includes layout and design, weed control, yield of vegetables, and overall appearance.

Winners are:
Cliff Cash, large garden
Richard Jones, medium garden
Carolyn Trimble, small garden
Tony Hubbard, tied for small garden

The winners received garden plaques donated by Turners Feed and Seed and presented by Richard Turner. They received certificates of achievement donated by the Douglas County Extension Service and presented by Janet Hooten. Each winner also received a $100.00 prize donated by the Douglas County Farm Bureau and presented by Travis Henry, President.
